Sindh Press Club Welfare Karachi Want?

Sindh Press Club Welfare Karachi (SPCWK) has consistently championed the cause of social development, equity, and sustainable welfare within the community. We recognize that for a society to achieve true stability, its foundational social institutions—most importantly, the institution of marriage—must be free from the pressures of greed, coercion, and harmful traditional practices.

The SPCWK is pleased to formally endorse the core principles outlined in a comprehensive document titled, “The Covenant of Mansoor and Marriage Conditions.” This model presents a progressive and balanced framework designed to ensure that marriages are built on mutual respect, financial transparency, and shared social responsibility, moving away from burdensome customs that often lead to conflict and debt.

We urge all families and community leaders to study and implement the following key reform points promoted by this model:

Core Tenets for an Equitable Union:

  1. Strict Prohibition of Financial Burden: The model explicitly bans the practices of giving or taking dowry (Jahaiz) by the bride’s family and ‘Warij’ (goods/cash) by the groom’s family. This single clause is vital for alleviating the immense financial stress placed upon middle and lower-income families, allowing unions to be formed based on compatibility rather than wealth.

  2. Mandatory Health and Legal Compliance: It stipulates that both parties must undergo medical check-ups prior to marriage and fulfill all legal registration requirements. This promotes the health and security of both the individuals and future generations.

  3. Mutual Financial Responsibility: The covenant promotes a balanced approach where both the groom and the bride are expected to contribute financially post-marriage (e.g., the suggested provision of goods/items worth $120,000$ and $180,000$ Rupees respectively, along with joint commitments to housing and business). This fosters a partnership based on economic cooperation rather than dependency.

  4. Emphasis on Education and Personal Growth: The agreement stresses the importance of dedicating time for both individuals to enhance their educational qualifications and pursue personal development, ensuring that marriage supports, rather than stifles, ambition.

  5. Social and Ethical Commitments: Beyond the personal couple, the document mandates broader social responsibilities, including allocating resources to help the poor before the wedding, adhering to the principle of non-violence (Adam-e-Tashaddud), and the implementation of appropriate plans for the protection and training of children.

The Sindh Press Club Welfare Karachi believes that by adopting these conditions, our society can establish robust, resilient, and equitable family units. We call upon the Judiciary, religious scholars, and community leaders to support the fair division of rights and responsibilities under national and international laws, as highlighted in this model.

Our collective commitment to this framework will pave the way for a generation of families defined by love, loyalty, and justice.
